Ok, Apple wants to participate in profits from your use of their iBooks Author software when you create and sell your new work.
That gets me thinking. let’s say i give you my guitar for free, but i stipulate if you make money while using the guitar that i take a commission.
you might say yes.
So, why not give me music software and have me agree that if i make any money with the music i create on the software, that i pay you a vig.
I like it. i like it for photo editing or just about anything where i don’t’ want to pay you up front, cuz i’d prefer to get your software for free. you say fineā¦just pay me if you make some money.
This is a method for commerce i’ve not stumbled across before. it’s gotten me thinking how else this idea might be put to good use.
How about, i’ll teach you how to do something. I’ll do it at no charge upfront. But, i want you to give me part of your earnings when you use that knowledge. People might share their secrets a little more freely.
Hey, i’m not sure how you can police this, but imagine if FinalCut or Logic put a watermarkish thingy on your work and when someone bought a song they simply got paid direct.
Ya ya, you may think this is a rip-off. I say it might help continue to drive innovation.
